Cellular senescence, when cells cease division, is associated with chronic age-related diseases and age-related tissue and organ dysfunction. In this interview, Corina Amor, MD, PhD, Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, New York City, NY, comments on the current work to develop senescent cell-targeting CAR T-cells. Many chronic age-related pathologies require long-term treatment; however, CAR-T has the potential to manage these conditions for years with a single infusion. Although this research is in the early stages, the persistence of CAR T-cells in this context has been good, and further investigation will aim to elucidate the potential impact on tissue regeneration. This interview took place at the EBMT-EHA 6th European CAR T-cell Meeting in Valencia, Spain.
