Tandem Meetings 2023 | Intersection between ancestry, socio-economic status & donor type in adult allograft recipients

Warren Fingrut, MD, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York City, NY, Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, Boston, MA, comments on the results of a study investigating the intersection between ancestry, low socio-economic status, and donor type in 372 adult allograft recipients. The study revealed that patients with non-European ancestry were more likely to receive HLA-mismatched grafts. Dr Fingrut explains that the results of this study suggest that better socio-economic status classifications are needed to improve equity, and that it is crucial to address financial disparities to improve access to transplant in patients from minority groups. This interview took place at the 2023 Transplantation & Cellular Therapy Meetings of ASTCT™ and CIBMTR® held in Orlando, FL.
