Warren Fingrut, MD, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York City, NY, Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, Boston, MA, discusses the findings of a study that explored potential donors’ perspectives on stem cell (SC) donation TikToks to inform the use of this fast-growing social media platform in public health. In this study, 46 adults aged 17-35 who used TikTok were shown videos from a TikTok library aiming to engage diverse young adults to SC donation through a variety of educational topics and engagement strategies. Participants were found to have a positive attitude towards these TikToks, and made them more willing to take action and register to donate. Using feedback from participants, the study generated a novel method to classify public health TikTok content and highlighted key design elements to create effective public health TikToks. This interview took place at the 2023 Transplantation & Cellular Therapy Meetings of ASTCT™ and CIBMTR® held in Orlando, FL.
