iwCLL 2021 | Current challenges in CLL treatment

Brian Koffman, MDCM (retired), MS Ed, CLL Society, Inc., Chula Vista, CA, discusses the most pressing issues regarding quality of life for patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). Dr Koffman talks on the deprivation of social interaction for patients as a result of COVID-19 restrictions and comments on how this will be improved by reaching herd immunity through vaccination. Dr Koffman also talks on how the development of curative therapies to increase overall survival (OS) and lift the burden of multiple treatments would increase patient quality of life. Lastly, Dr Koffman reports on the impaired immunity of patients with CLL, and discusses how this needs to be addressed to reduce the rate of infection and secondary malignancies. This interview was conducted during the 2021 virtual international workshop on CLL (iwCLL) congress.
