The climate emergency is the biggest threat to health globally, as stated by the World Health Organization (WHO). In this video, Shireen Kassam, MBBS, PhD, FRCPath, dipIBLM, King’s College London, London, UK, introduces the concept of sustainable healthcare and outlines why it is relevant to hematologists. Medicine and healthcare contribute 4-6% of global greenhouse gas emissions, and Dr Kassam emphasizes the need to reduce this with more sustainable practice in all areas of medicine, including hematology.
