ASH 2019 | Association of HLA matching with outcome of UD-HSCT: EBMT study

Annalisa Ruggeri, MD, IRCCS Ospedale Pediatrico Bambino Gesù, Rome, Italy, discusses a study from the Cellular Therapy and Immunobiology Working Party (CTIWP) of the European Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT). This study analyzed the association of donor-recipient HLA matching with the clinical outcomes of unrelated donor hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (UD-HSCT). Dr Ruggeri reveals data from the study reinforces the importance of HLA matching in the setting of UD-HSCT, as the best HLA match resulted in better overall and leukemia-free survival. This interview took place at the American Society of Hematology (ASH) 2019 Annual Meeting and Exposition in Orlando, FL.
