SOHO 2026 | Insights into the risk of pulmonary infections in patients with CLL treated with targeted agents

Maher Salamoon, MD, Al-Baironi Hospital, Damascus, Syria, discusses the frequency and risk factors for pulmonary infections in patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) treated with targeted agents, highlighting that defects in T-cell-mediated immunity and B-cell depletion increase the risk of opportunistic infections. Dr Salamoon presents a prospective observational study that correlated pulmonary infections with baseline genetic defects, showing a significant correlation between high burden TP53 mutation, non-mutant IGHV, and history of COPD with increased risk of infection. This interview took place at the 14th Annual Meeting of the Society of Hematologic Oncology (SOHO 2026) in Houston, TX.
