Thomas Chatzikonstantinou, MD, Center for Research and Technology Hellas, Thessaloniki, Greece, discusses the role of biomarkers in guiding the management of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), highlighting that IGHV gene somatic hypermutation status and TP53 aberrations are crucial in selecting first-line therapy. Dr Chatzikonstantinou emphasizes the importance of using fluorescent in situ hybridisation (FISH) for 17p deletion and sequencing methods for detecting TP53 mutations, in order to decide between continuous and fixed duration treatments. This interview took place at the 2026 ERIC International Meeting in Barcelona, Spain.
