COMy 2023 | Addressing the disparity in ethnic variation in UK-based clinical trials for multiple myeloma

Rakesh Popat, BSc, MBBS, MRCP, FRCPath, PhD, University College London Hospitals, London, UK, discusses current shortcomings in the recruitment of patients from ethnically diverse backgrounds for UK-based clinical trials for multiple myeloma. Dr Popat explains that, although the incidence of myeloma is higher in patients of African descent compared to other regions, this patient group is significantly under-enrolled in clinical trials. To address this disparity, Dr Popat cites ongoing initiatives which aim to improve diversity in enrollment and ensure that underserved populations have access to clinical trials. This interview took place at the 9th World Congress on Controversies in Multiple Myeloma (COMy) 2023, held in Paris, France.
