ASH 2023 | The increased risk of thromboembolism in cancer

Orly Leiva, MD, NYU Langone Health, New York City, NY, discusses the increased risk of venous thromboembolism in patients with cancer. Cancer impacts all three aspects of Virchow’s triad (blood coagulation, flow, and endothelial damage) and predisposes an individual to vascular thrombosis. Dr Leiva highlights that this increased risk should not be ignored when conducting cancer studies. This interview took place at the 65th ASH Annual Meeting and Exposition, held in San Diego, CA.
