Jeffrey Chalmers, PhD, The Ohio State University, Columbus, OH, discusses a novel testing technique in patients with sickle cell disease (SCD). This technique involves the use of a device which analyses the intrinsic magnetization of red blood cells in a cell-by-cell analysis, which will allow for magnetic cell properties to be correlated to the various pain states experienced by patients with SCD. This interview took place at the 65th ASH Annual Meeting and Exposition, held in San Diego, CA.
