EMMA Vienna 2017 | How are viral and bacterial infections managed in myeloma patients?

Heinz Ludwig, MD, of the Wilhelminen Cancer Research Institute, Vienna, Austria discusses the type of prophylaxis needed for the prevention and management of both viral and bacterial infections in myeloma. He stresses the importance of influenza vaccinations and of managing bacterial infections with antibiotic prophylaxis, including fluoroquinolone, Bactrim and amoxicillin in high-risk patients. Prof. Ludwig highlights that once the patient is in remission, administration of antibiotics must stop.
