EHA 2017 | Understanding science and research: the importance of patient advocates

It is very important for patient advocates to be involved and be aware about cutting-edge research, so that they can inform their patient community about ongoing trials, results from trials, what that means for clinical practice, and what it means for them in terms of quality of life and for returning to normal life. Jan Geissler, from the Leukemia Patient Advocates Foundation, Germany, also expresses the importance of advocates engaging with researchers, bringing the patient’s voice into research in order to meet patient needs. Further, he also mentions the importance of encouraging advocates to have an input into how clinical trials can adapt and move forward in different iterative steps. Recorded at the European Hematology Association (EHA) 2017 Annual Congress in Madrid, Spain.
