ASH 2023 | Looking to the future in the field of transplantation

Nico Gagelmann, MD, University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf, Hamburg, Germany, provides his views on the areas within the field of transplantation which are most exciting at this moment. The prevention and treatment of graft-versus-host disease (GvHD) is likely to be the primary focus over the coming decade, as it remains a concern due to its profound impact on morbidity and mortality of patients. Dr Gagelmann also looks forward to further research into optimal timing of transplantation on a patient-by-patient basis, as although some data exists for this in the area of myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), for other malignancies, the knowledge is scarce. This interview took place at the 65th ASH Annual Meeting and Exposition, held in San Diego, CA.
