Sara El Hoss, PhD, King’s College London, London, UK, speaks on her research investigating the erythropoiesis and the bone marrow niche in sickle cell disease (SCD). Studying both the stem cells of patients and the bone marrow niche in animal models allowed Dr Hoss and her team to observe how each stage of erythropoiesis is affected in the disease, and how this impacts the architecture of the bone marrow niche. This research provides a greater insight into the pathophysiology of SCD, which will allow for a more informed approach to treatment of the disease. This interview was recorded at the 18th Annual Scientific Conference on Sickle Cell and Thalassemia (ASCAT) 2023, held in London, UK.
