Radhika Bansal, MBBS, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN, outlines current unmet needs in extramedullary disease (EMD) in multiple myeloma. Dr Bansal underlines the need for large randomized clinical trials to define clear guidelines for the treatment and follow-up of patients with EMD, as well as to evaluate the safety and efficacy of available treatment options. It is also critical to explore new more effective treatment strategies for this patient population.
