In this video, Miguel Brito, PhD, Lisbon School of Health Technology, Lisbon, Portugal, outlines the need to study genetic variants of sickle cell disease (SCD) in order to determine how they modulate the outcome of the disease. In future, genetic analysis of patients will allow clinicians to determine those most at risk of severe disease so that additional support can be provided to these individuals. This interview was recorded at the 18th Annual Scientific Conference on Sickle Cell and Thalassemia (ASCAT) 2023, held in London, UK.
