EBMT 2022 | Late effects of HSCT in young patients with ALL: transition to adult services & long-term follow-up

Tamara Diesch, MD, University Children’s Hospital Basel, Basel, Switzerland, talks on long-term transplant-related complications in young patients with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), highlighting the importance of providing a framework for long-term surveillance and care for pediatric patients who have undergone hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). It is known that HSCT is associated with significant long-term toxicity. When patients transition from pediatric care to adult services, it is important to organize a consultation to discuss the patient’s disease history and possible late effects. It is also essential to perform a long-term follow-up for each patient. This interview took place at the 48th Annual Meeting of the European Group for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT) 2022, which was held virtually.
