SOHO 2023 | CML during pregnancy: implications and considerations for treatment

Elisabetta Abruzzese, MD, PhD, S. Eugenio University Hospital, Rome, Italy, discusses the implications and challenges of having chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) during pregnancy, as well as treatment options available. Dr Abruzzese highlights reasons why certain tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) should not be used during pregnancy, and summarizes registries which have been implemented to collect information for patients. Dr Abruzzese also discusses agents which may be administered once the placenta has formed, including nilotinib, interferon and imatinib, and concludes by discussing ongoing challenges in this space. This interview took place at the Eleventh Annual Meeting of the Society of Hematologic Oncology (SOHO 2023) held in Houston, TX.
