Simone Cesaro, MD, Azienda Ospedaliera Universitaria Integrata Verona, Verona, Italy, comments on the benefits of COVID-19 vaccination in patients with hematological malignancies. In an observational study, mortality and ICU admission rates were reduced in immunocompromised patients who were vaccinated. In addition, Dr Cesaro discusses current guidelines on administering COVID-19 vaccines in pediatric patients and provides an overview of guidelines recommended by the Italian Pediatric Hematology Oncology Association (AIEOP) on vaccinating pediatric patients against COVID-19. By providing the latest information regarding safety and efficacy, vaccine uptake should increase among pediatric patients. This interview took place at the 7th Congress on Controversies in Stem Cell Transplantation and Cellular Therapies (COSTEM) in Berlin, Germany.
