Crawford Strunk, MD, Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, OH, discusses the challenges of transitioning from pediatric to adult care in sickle cell disease (SCD) treatment, and emphasizes the importance of support and education for patients with the disease. With mortality rates still increasing for adolescents with SCD, Dr Strunk comments on the importance of adherence to medication and physician-guided care.
