ASCAT 2024 | Managing chronic pain in patients with sickle cell disease

In this video, Wally Smith, MD, Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, VA, discusses chronic pain management in patients with sickle cell disease (SCD), highlighting that a third of patients experience pain daily. Prof. Smith emphasizes the need for a biopsychosocial approach to pain management in these patients, which includes the incorporation of non-pharmaceutical interventions that have not yet been adequately studied in the population. This interview took place at the 19th Annual Scientific Conference of the Academy for Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia (ASCAT 2024) in London, UK.
