Urvi Shah, MD, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York City, NY, shares some insights into the importance of analyzing diet-microbiome interactions in oncology, and highlights how investigating these interactions may provide patients with valuable information. Dr Shah first explains how dietary patterns may influence the gut microbiome, which may play a crucial role in disease prevention and treatment, as well as long-term remission. Dr Shah also shares some insights into the NUTRIVENTION pilot study (NCT04920084), which evaluated the impact of a plant-based diet in individuals with monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS) or smoldering multiple myeloma (SMM). To conclude, Dr Shah discusses how diet may further impact the microbiome in the treatment and survivorship settings. This interview took place at the 63rd Annual Scientific Meeting of the British Society for Haematology (BSH) 2023, held in Birmingham, UK.
