BSH 2023 | AI in hematology: advances, challenges, and future applications

Roni Shouval, MD, PhD, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York City, NY, discusses advances made with the use of artificial intelligence (AI), as well as its current and future applications in hematology practice. Dr Shouval highlights recent studies evaluating AI techniques in the diagnosis and prognosis of patients, and further comments on challenges in the field, such as the relative scarcity of data, obstacles to implementing algorithms, and the need to ensure generalizability. To conclude, Dr Shouval describes some medical AI techniques currently available, particularly for pathology and radiology applications. This interview took place at the 63rd Annual Scientific Meeting of the British Society for Haematology (BSH) 2023, held in Birmingham, UK.
