Beyond genomics: soluble proteomics for risk stratification and therapeutic targeting in AML

Hussein Abbas, MD, PhD, The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX, presents on the potential of soluble proteomics to risk-stratify patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and identify new therapeutic targets. Dr Abbas explains how comprehensive soluble proteomic profiling can reveal treatment-associated remodeling and biologically distinct AML subtypes independent of genomic status. He also discusses blood-based risk tools, including the Leukemia Inflammatory Risk Score (LIRS) and the machine learning–based FIRE-AML risk model, and the incorporation of proteomic profiling into clinical trials to assess treatment response and toxicity. This presentation took place at the 8th International Workshop on Acute Leukemias (iwAL) in Cambridge, MA.
