EHA 2022 | The impact of bariatric surgery on the outcomes of patients with CML treated with TKIs

Fadi Haddad, MD, MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX, discusses the results of a study investigating the impact of bariatric surgery on the outcomes of patients with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) treated with tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs). Overall, the study found that patients who had bariatric surgery had a worse failure-free survival (FFS), as well as a worse overall survival (OS), and took a longer time to achieve a complete cytogenetic remission (CCyR) and major molecular response (MMR) than patients who had not undergone a bariatric surgery. This interview took place at the European Hematology Association (EHA) Congress 2022 held in Vienna, Austria.
