Academic History
Krina Patel, MD, MSc, obtained her medical degree from The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas, TX, and subsequently underwent her residency and fellowship training at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX. Following this, she completed an MSc in Biomedical Science & Clinical and Translational Sciences at The University of Texas Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at Houston, Houston, TX.
At present, Dr Patel holds the position of Associate Professor in the Department of Lymphoma/Myeloma in the Division of Cancer Medicine at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. She is a member of the American Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (ASTCT), the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR), the American Society of Hematology (ASH), and the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO).
Speaking on cellular therapies in multiple myeloma
Dr Patel’s research has been published in a number of prestigious peer-reviewed journals and focuses on improving therapy and clinical outcomes for patients with multiple myeloma (MM) and other plasma cell dyscrasias (including Waldenstrom’s macroglobulinemia, POEMS, and plasmablastic lymphoma). Dr Patel acts as the principal investigator on clinical trials investigating CAR T-cell therapy for the treatment of myeloma. In addition to this, she has an interest in assessing the combination of chemotherapy and immunotherapy in various stages of the transplantation process.
