Fabio Efficace
Academic History
Fabio Efficace, PhD, is the head of the Health Outcomes Research Unit and chair of the GIMEMA Working Party on Quality of Life at the GIMEMA (Italian Group for Adult Hematologic Diseases) Data Center in Rome, Italy, and works as a scientific advisor at the Italian Association against Leukemia, Lymphoma and Myeloma (AIL) in Rome, Italy.
Dr Efficace earned his PhD in Psychology at the University of Amsterdam, Amsterdam, Netherlands, and has dedicated his career to outcomes research in hematology and served as a Professor at the Northwestern University, Feinberg School of Medicine, Chicago, IL.
Dr Efficace has served in leadership roles within several international organizations, including the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) Quality of Life Group and the International Society for Quality of Life Research (ISOQOL).

Dr Efficace’s research focuses on the assessment and implementation of patient-reported outcomes in leukemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma, and other hematologic malignancies. His work aims to improve the evaluation of treatment benefit by incorporating patients’ experiences into clinical research, regulatory decision-making, and routine practice, ensuring that therapeutic advances translate into meaningful improvements in quality of life.
