Academic history

Blanca Espinet, PhD, is Head of Molecular Cytogenetics Laboratory in the Department of Pathology at the Institute of Medical Research, Hospital de Mar, Barcelona, Spain. After graduating from The University of Barcelona in Biology and Pharmacy, Dr Espinet completed her PhD from The Autonomous University of Barcelona.

Dr Espinet is also the Head of the Translational Research Group on Hematologic Neoplasms within the Cancer Research Program at the Hospital de Mar and was President of the Spanish Cooperative Group of Hematology Cytogenetics of the Spanish Society of Hematology and Hemotherapy from 2006 to 2018.

Currently, Dr Espinet is a member of the Spanish Group of CLL within the same society and Coordinator of the Commission on Hematology Cytogenetics within the Spanish Association of Human Genetics. Furthermore, she has been a member of the Cytogenetics Network of the European Research Initiative on CLL and a Quality Consultant in hematological cytogenetics within the Genomics Quality Assessment.

Dr Espinet’s most recent publications focus on follicular lymphoma, including prognostic indexes in first line follicular lymphoma treated with immuno-chemotherapy and the prediction of risk of transformation in patients with follicular lymphoma.
