Arun Wiita

Academic History

Arun Wiita, MD, PhD, is an Associate Professor in Residence in the Department of Laboratory Medicine at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF), San Francisco, CA.

After obtaining a medical degree from Columbia University, New York, NY, Dr Wiita underwent a Residency in Laboratory Medicine and Post-Doctoral Training in Pharmaceutical Chemistry at UCSF.

Dr Wiita’s research laboratory encompasses a wide range of fields within genomics, proteomics, and hematologic malignancies, with a primary focus on utilizing targeted, quantitative proteomics in myeloma and B-cell leukemia. Additionally, he serves as the Assistant Director of the UCSF Clinical Cytogenetics Laboratory. Among his numerous achievements are the Janet Rowley Memorial Medical Research Award and the Dale Frey Breakthrough Award.

Speaking on proteomics in multiple myeloma

Dr Wiita has a special interest in using mass spectrometry-based proteomics to discover new biology and therapeutic targets in hematologic malignancies. He focuses on proteomics in multiple myeloma and proteasome inhibitor resistance.
