Academic history

Alexey Bersenev, MD, PhD, is the Assistant Professor of Clinical Laboratory Medicine at the Yale School of Medicine, New Haven, CT, and the Director of Advanced cell therapy at Yale New Haven Hospital, CT. Dr Bersenev gained his medical degree from the Izhevsk State Medical Academy, Izhevsk, Russia, and studied his PhD at the Institute of Transplantology and Artificial Organs, Moscow, Russia. Following this, Dr Bersenev worked as a Research Scientist at the Moscow Transplantation Research Institute, Moscow, Russia, before undergoing postdoctoral training in the United States, at the Thomas Jefferson University and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Philadelphia, PA. Dr Bersenev worked at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA, as a Resource Technologist, and then as the Cell Manufacturing Manager in the Clinical Cell and Vaccine Production Facility. Prof. Bersenev was appointed his role at Yale in 2015.

Speaking on cellular therapies

Dr Bersenev has expertise in the use of CAR-T and other cell therapies for many diseases. Recent publications that Dr Bersenev has co-authored are focused on clinical trials testing modern and advanced cell therapies, including mesenchymal stem cells, perinatal cells and CAR T-cells.
