Ghayas Issa, MD, The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX, presents on patterns of differentiation syndrome (DS) in patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) treated with menin inhibitors. Dr Issa explains that DS can occur in both KMT2A-rearranged and NPM1-mutated AML, with monocytic forms often harder to recognize and treat, and recommends a lower threshold for starting corticosteroids. He discusses a rare hyperinflammatory state that responds poorly to steroids, lower DS rates with combination regimens, and the need for better diagnostic criteria and biomarkers. This presentation took place at the 8th International Workshop on Acute Leukemias (iwAL) in Cambridge, MA.
