Roy F Chemaly, MD, MPH, FIDSA, FACP, MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX, gives an outline of new agents and new tools for the management of cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection in patients receiving allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT). Dr Chemaly discusses the use of letermovir for the treatment of patients with positive CMV serostatus receiving allo-HSCT to prevent CMV reactivation, as well as highlighting its efficacy against resistant and refractory CMV infection. Dr Chemaly also outlines the potential approval of maribavir for the treatment of refractory and resistant CMV infection for patients receiving allo-HSCT.
