Freda Stevenson, MSc, DPhil, FRCPath, FMedSci, University of Southampton, Southampton, UK, describes the origins of the two forms of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL); mutated and unmutated. Mutated CLL originates from a relationship with monoclonal B-cell monocytosis and does not generally require therapy. The origins of unmutated CLL reflect the body’s innate antibody reaction and requires therapy. This interview took place during the European Research Initiative on CLL (ERIC) International Virtual Meeting 2020.
