Akshat Jain, MD, MPH, FRCP, Loma Linda University, San Bernadino, CA, explores the application of gene editing in treating solid tumors, drawing inspiration from its success in managing sickle cell disease (SCD) and thalassemia. While not yet an established treatment for solid tumors, Dr Jain emphasizes the potential of manipulating immune cell genetic expression using tools like CRISPR/Cas9 to target tumor cells.
