ISTH 2024 | Challenges in the diagnosis and treatment of vWD

In this video, Caterina Casari, PhD, Paris-Saclay University, Inserm UMR-S1176 Hemostasis Inflammation and Thrombosis, Paris, France, discusses the remaining challenges in the diagnosis and treatment of von Willebrand disease (vWD). Whilst patients with severe disease are often diagnosed and put on treatment early in life, there is a delay in the diagnosis of those with mild symptoms or those who are asymptomatic. Bleeding assessment tools and sequencing are often not completely accurate, creating a need for newer tools. Another challenge in vWD is that it is a rare and heterogenous disease, and it remains a challenge to conduct clinical trials on large cohorts in this setting. This interview took place at the 32nd Congress of the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH), held in Bangkok, Thailand, and virtually.
