BSH 2022 | Challenges in acute and chronic pain management in SCD

Sanne Lugthart, MD, PhD, University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust, Bristol, UK, comments on the challenges in acute and chronic pain management in patients with sickle cell disease (SCD). Dr Lugthart explains that it is often not possible to treat patients with SCD who present with acute pain within 30 minutes of arriving to the hospital as recommended in the NICE guidelines. Regarding chronic pain management, it is important to work with special chronic pain and anesthetic teams to deliver the best patient care. This interview took place at the 62nd Annual Scientific Meeting of the British Society for Haematology (BSH) 2022, in Manchester, UK.
