Simona Soverini, PhD, University of Bologna, Bologna, Italy, discusses the essential diagnostic tests for chronic myeloid leukemia (CML), emphasizing the roles of conventional cytogenetics, fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), and polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Cytogenetics helps detect the Philadelphia chromosome and additional genetic abnormalities, while FISH is useful when cytogenetics fails to identify the Philadelphia chromosome. PCR is crucial for defining the transcript type, which is necessary for proper patient monitoring. This interview took place at the Twelfth Annual Meeting of the Society of Hematologic Oncology (SOHO 2024) congress in Houston, TX.
