ASCO 2026 | How do fewer chemotherapy plus venetoclax consolidation cycles impact toxicity and efficacy in AML?

Jennifer Marvin-Peek, MD, The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX, discusses a study evaluating the impact of fewer frontline intensive chemotherapy plus venetoclax consolidation cycles on outcomes in acute myeloid leukemia (AML). She notes that while these combinations have shown high measurable residual disease (MRD)-negativity rates, they come with the potential for additive toxicity. In this study, fewer cycles of consolidation did not adversely affect outcomes; however, prospective trials are needed to validate these findings. This interview took place during the 2026 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Meeting in Chicago, IL.
