Dániel János Erdélyi, PhD, Semmelweis University, Budapest, Hungary, discusses the role of circulating microRNAs as minimal residual disease (MRD) biomarkers in childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). Compared to the current practice of MRD monitoring, this approach would have the advantage of less invasive sampling and no need for general anesthesia. Although microRNAs were less sensitive than current standards of patient follow-up, Dr János Erdélyi reveals that they could be used as tools to monitor CNS disease. This interview was recorded via an online conference call with The Video Journal of Hematological Oncology (VJHemOnc).
