In this interview, Cristina Scielzo, PhD, IRCCS San Raffaele Scientific Institute, Milan, Italy, highlights the necessity of developing new in vitro models, with a greater degree of complexity, for studying the tumor microenvironment of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). Models which will mimic both the settings of the tissue and the peripheral blood, such as those developed by Dr Scielzo and her team, will allow for the disease and the mechanisms of action of novel therapies to be studied in an appropriate context. This interview was recorded at the biennial International Workshop on Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (iwCLL) 2023 meeting, held in Boston, MA.
