STFOM 2024 | The challenges with implementing AI in cancer care: building trust in AI technologies

Vivek Natarajan, Research Lead, Google Health AI, Google, San Francisco, CA, outlines some of the main challenges with implementing artificial intelligence (AI) into cancer care, highlighting that building trust towards AI technologies is crucial to allow for their success. As the understanding of AI increases in the general population, the fear or apprehension that may exist toward these tools often decreases, and patients are more likely to allow AI to be a part of their care. Large-scale prospective studies are needed to prove that AI tools are helping doctors and improving clinical outcomes, which requires significant time and financial investment. This interview took place at the Shaping the Future of Medicine (STFOM 2024) congress held in Leipzig, Germany.
