Welcome first to this fantastic area. It can be very challenging as a young nurse because it is very scientifically complicated, but this is also very exciting. If you are a young nurse, you’re going to learn more and more year after year in this area of medicine that brings new evidence like almost every day and it’s very exciting for a nurse to see that, but because it’s also very complex, you have to, I mean, you have to educate yourself; you have to go to this kind of meeting, actually. This is a place where you learn, also where you network with colleagues from different countries. This is a very great opportunity for young nurses.

As a nurse, as a young nurse, you have to be fully involved in multidisciplinary teamwork. You have to work with other healthcare professionals, social workers, psychologists, statisticians, or physiotherapists, which is very important for our patients during their pathway, not only with the physician, even if, of course, the relation with the physician is very important, you know. This is my advice: also, involve the multidisciplinary care team.

Usually, we say that as a young nurse, first you develop your clinical skills, a nursing clinical ability to assess the patient, to perform their care, but after a couple of months, probably, when you are more comfortable, you develop more relational skills with the patient, the ability to truly communicate with the patient, to receive their emotions and to guide them through their pathway, which is a very complex pathway indeed.
