Anand Patel, MD, The University of Chicago Medicine, Chicago, IL, discusses how air pollutants, specifically PAHPOM, have been associated with an increased risk of acute myeloid leukemia (AML), especially in non-Hispanic black and Hispanic patients. Dr Patel believes that this information may enable hypothesis generation, and emphasizes that much more has to be learnt to properly understand the effects of pollution. This interview took place at the Twelfth Annual Meeting of the Society of Hematologic Oncology (SOHO 2024) congress in Houston, TX.
