RNA binding proteins (RBPs) play a crucial role in regulating gene expression, and their dysregulation can result in nucleolar stress and play a fundamental role in the development of hematological malignancies. In this video, Pedro Aguilar-Garrido, Spanish National Cancer Research Center (CNIO), Madrid, Spain, discusses a study which investigated whether alterations in hnRNP K expression could have an impact on bone marrow failure and hematopoietic stem cell biology. Using cell models and mouse models, it was found that the overexpression of hnRNP K leads to nucleolar stress, increased protein production, senescence-like phenotypes, and has an impact on bone marrow function. This press briefing was recorded at the European Hematology Association (EHA) Congress 2022 held in Vienna, Austria.
