Eleni Gavriilaki, MD, PhD, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Athens, Greece, talks on the dynamic assessment of peripheral perfusion in survivors of allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (alloHCT). Survivors of alloHCT have recently been identified as being at increased risk of cardiovascular events. Dr Gavriilaki gives an overview and discusses the findings of a study which compared results of dynamic assessment of microvascular dysfunction from 75 alloHCT survivors who had received alloHCT at a median of 3.2 years prior, and 75 controls. The study found that although traditional cardiovascular risk factors did not differ between the two groups, survivors of alloHCT had a significantly impaired microvascular response. Occlusion flux and baseline to occlusion changes were found to be the most significant predictors of vascular dysfunction. This interview took place at the virtual European Hematology Association (EHA) Congress 2021.
