Alex Bataller, MD, PhD, The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX, discusses findings from a retrospective analysis comparing treatment with a hypomethylating agent (HMA) with and without venetoclax in treatment-naïve myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) with excess blasts. Dr Bataller highlights a higher overall response rate (ORR) with HMA-venetoclax and discusses potential subgroups, including patients with ASXL1 mutations or higher blast counts, who may benefit most from the addition of venetoclax. This interview took place at the 31st Congress of the European Hematology Association (EHA) in Stockholm, Sweden.
