ASCO 2026 | Moving CAR-T to earlier lines of therapy in children and young adults with B-ALL

In this video, Shannon Maude, MD, PhD, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Philadelphia, PA, briefly discusses the importance of studying CAR T-cell therapy in earlier lines of therapy in pediatric and young adult patients with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL), as with standard therapy, the risk of subsequent relapse remains high. This interview took place during the 2026 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Meeting in Chicago, IL.

But I think there’s still a significant area of need in those patients in first relapse who are at very high risk. And those can be distinguished by the patients who have an early bone marrow relapse. Still with standard therapy, we see that there’s a very high risk of subsequent relapse. And so I think that’s an area where CAR T-cells are important to study. And there will be, I think, patients in frontline therapy, like what we studied on this trial, who may benefit from CAR T-cell therapy.
