Yingyu Chen, PhD, Fujian Institute of Hematology, Fujian Medical University Union Hospital, Fuzhou, China, discusses the findings of a study investigating the association of the chemokine CXCL13 and T follicular helper (Tfh) cells with inhibitor development in patients with hemophilia A. This study involved patient samples and murine models, which both showed that CXCL13 and Tfh cells are strongly associated with the presence of inhibitors. Dr Chen describes a subsequent investigation of the mechanism, highlighting the release of damage-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs) from endothelial cells. This interview took place at the 31st Congress of the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH), held in Montréal, Canada.
