BSH 2022 | The APPG report on poor quality care for SCD

In this video, John James, OBE, Sickle Cell Society, London, UK, gives an overview of the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) report for sickle cell, which was commissioned and presented due to the poor care that is continuously provided to patients with sickle cell disease (SCD). The All-Party Parliamentary Group report on “No One’s Listening” was commissioned by the Sickle Cell Society, because of the continued failures of care for people who live with that condition. The committee is chaired by Pat McFadden, and we undertook a number of evidence sessions, which included healthcare professionals, patients, family members, and any interested party in wanting to see improvements to sickle cell. The main points of the All-Party Parliamentary Group report was the identification of poor care, particularly in accident and emergency departments, poor communication within trusts about the care of people living with sickle cell, racial bias, so identifying people as potential drug seekers, and lack of training and education in relation to the condition that is sickle cell.
